Middle Caicos

Once known as “Grand Caicos”, this is the largest island in the Turks and Caicos chain and a short 15-minute flight from Providenciales. The sparsely populated island (reportedly fewer than 1,000 souls) is host to the Caribbean’s largest cave system. Settled by the Lucayan Indians, excavations of the caves speak to the history of these intrepid people. Today you can take guided tours through the maze-like caverns and corridors and marvel at the limestone architecture. Home to sisal industry in the past, native traditions of boat building, basket weaving, bush medicine are alive and well.
